OLD GORE - a beautiful venue nestled in the Cotswold Estate of Calmsden on the outskirts of Cirencester. This was our first venture into working alongside Mark & Jenny Ponting of MA Ponting Builders. We have since gone on to create various other stunning projects with them which you can see & read about in another project page for Calmsden Hub. This particular project was to be another venue to add to the Cripps & Co portfolio of unique wedding & dining experiences.
The brief was to supply and install a steel look aluminium system into the original apertures of an old Threshing Barn that was to be lovingly brought back to life & transformed into an amazing Cotswold wedding venue. L+L Installations are an ALUCO Aluminium Steel Look Retail Partner & this product was chosen to fulfil the design. The client was shown a previous barn conversion we carried out in Winchcombe prior to settling on design & colour.
Threshing barns have been around centuries and have a classic architectural style based on a cross design footprint with large doors on opposite elevations enclosing a central hall area. This main hall area would have been paved with hard wearing stone where the 'work' was done. The areas either side were used as storage. Farm workers would beat the unthreshed crop or 'mow' on the ground loosening the grain from their lighter husks. The opposing doors would be opened to allow a cross draught to blow the husks away, thus separating the heavier corn which would fall to the ground. Nowadays this is all done mechanically & in seconds, but back in the day, this was the only way.
