Ye Olde Black Bear Tewkesbury - A medievel gem in the heart of Tewkesbury is renowned for being Gloucestershire's oldest Inn, reputedly dating back to 1308. The Stables area was apparently converted during the Battle of The Roses in 1471 to a field hospital to treat the wounded, so has certainly seen some history. There is also a walk on glass cover in the floor showing steps in the main bar area which legend has it was once part of a network of tunnels that linked to Tewkesbury Abbey enabling the Monks to visit the Inn. The front corner room is also an amazing feature of the pub with its leather work ceiling still in-situ to this day.
Since recently purchasing the old Inn Luke Haynes has undertaken a painstaking restoration to bring the old pub back to its heyday and more. The inside has been extensively renovated opening it up to create a large social area which has become extremly popular with locals as well as customers from far and wide. Luke always had a vision of using local trades to renovate as well as local suppliers to stock the pub. When he found out that L+L Installations was a mere few hundred metres away just along the river, he didn't look anywhere else!
We are very pleased to have played a small hand in the renovation project supplying & installing Bifolding doors & a Lantern roof to the Eating Hall area, as well as a Commercial entrance door leading out tothe rear.
The project did hit many snags along the way, not least of which a worldwide Pandemic which did extend the original opening date (several times), but Luke dug deep & with credit to him & his team has created a well supported hub for the town of Tewkesbury.
