Thank you to everyone who voted in our poll which ended with the final result of - Folding doors - 75%, Sliding doors - 25%
If you are trying to decide which system suits your home best a good question to start with would be - What is more important to you - view or the ability to have a full opening?

If you wish to have a full opening then folding (bi-folding) doors fold back all the way and would be the obvious choice. However if your view is the most important factor then you may want to consider the sliding patio door option with a slim middle bar, allowing you to maximise glass.
Another point to keep in mind is how often you expect the doors to be open. Folding doors will give you an unobstructed view when open only, whereas with a slim bar sliding door system you can have an all year round view without having to open the doors.

To help you decide between the two systems we’ve put together a small pros and cons table -

Pro
Con

Opening

Folding Doors
Bi-folding doors will allow you to maximise your access by opening fully.
When the doors are open they will need to stack either inside or outside.
Sliding doors
Do not take up any space inside or outside.
Doors cannot open fully; options include half (full half with flush stacking doors) and two-thirds opening.

View

Folding Doors
Full unobstructed view when the doors are open.
Obstructed view when closed.
Sliding doors
Slim centre bars and larger doors allow for a view without opening the doors.
Doors will not open the full width of the opening.
