Myth Busters

  •  Installing double glazing will eliminate condensation.
  • When compared to single glass, double glazing will help to reduce the formation of condensation but it will not eliminate it. There are a host of factors which affect condensation. For further information please ask your L&L consultant or visit www.ggf.org.uk/publications
  • Conservatories do not need planning permission.
  • It is always best to check with your local authority. There are many factors which affect planning such as permitted development rights, public footpaths, covenants etc. At L&L we always check for planning issues and carry out a full planning application if required.
  • All windows and doors are the same.
  • Every manufacturer will have their own specification. There are a host of window and door profiles and components available but the key is to blend these together to produce the right end products. L&L are sole manufacturers and installers of energyLOCK products. The energyLOCK system champions not only the product but the method of installation too. At first glace one window may look very similar to another but if you take the time to look carefully you will see many differences.
  • The only thing to consider when replacing windows is the energy rating.
  • Window Energy Ratings (WERs) are a handy way to show one aspect of a window, namely the energy efficiency. However security, longevity, aesthetics and function are equally as important. energyLOCK addresses all of these issues in equal measure.
  • Windows must be ''A'' rated.
  • From October 2010 Building Regulations dictate that all replacement windows must have an energy rating (WER) of at least ''C''. A ''C'' rated window will save you up to £13,400 over a 20 year period when compared to single glazing in a detached house (source: GGF calculator 2008). An “A” rated window can save an extra £804 over the same 20 year period.
  • My colour choice is limited to white or woodgrain PVCu.
  • The energyLOCK range gives you 17 different colours to choose from.
  • All guarantees are the same.
  • You need to check the terms and conditions carefully before buying. Make sure that there are no hidden costs or exclusions.
  • Condensation on the OUTSIDE of the glass means there is a problem with my new window.
  • In certain conditions (especially in Autumn and Spring) you may get external condensation on your glass. This is because the latest generation of energy efficient glass sealed units are much cooler on the outside as they are keeping more heat inside your home. So this type of condensation shows that the window is performing well. As the temperature rises outside this condensation should disappear.

At L&L, we are resolute in maintaining the high quality of our products and service.
